Yesterday sector dignitaries united as Vision 2020 Australia officially launched the 2024 World Sight Day campaign in Australia – Love Your Eyes Kids! Every day, countless young individuals miss out on valuable learning and social opportunities because of a vision issue that could be treated, corrected and often cured. This year World Sight Day will focus attention on the importance of eye care in young people and inspiring children everywhere to love their eyes, as well as ensure that every child has eye health that is accessible, available and affordable. We were thrilled to have Caroline Casey, President of IAPB, join Tim James, Co-Chair of the NSW Parliamentary Friends Group for Eye Health and Vision Care, at the event as special guests. Their presence underscores the collective dedication to championing vision health. A big thank you to Vision 2020 Australia for organising the event, The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) for hosting this memorable event, and The Fred Hollows Foundation for their invaluable assistance in bringing the event together. #LoveYourEyes #WorldSightDay #EyeHealth

Behavioural Scientist dedicated to improving outcomes for children living with serious illness, & their families
Worldwide, 450 million #children have a sight condition that requires treatment. Many of these children are unable to acess care. Despite the priviledge of the Australian health system, eye disorders are still one the most common long-term health problems for our children. I was pleased to be invited by Vision 2020 Australia and International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) for their launch of the 2024 World Sight Day campaign, #LoveYourEyesKids (supported by The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and The Fred Hollows Foundation). Was a great night with like-minded individuals. Hearing about lived experience from the passionate Caroline Casey and Tim James literally brought me to tears. What can you do to support #LoveYourEyesKids? 1️⃣ inspire children in your life to take care of their eyes 2️⃣ reduce your children's screen time 3️⃣ book in eye checks for the family that you have been putting off 4️⃣ make it an exciting experience for your child to choose their own glasses 5️⃣ raise awareness about the importance of eye health 6️⃣ support organisations like Vision 2020 Australia And finally, 7️⃣ consider participating in / promoting research studies that will advocate for ensure Australians have access to the best possible eye care and support.
